FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 30, 2023
Canadian Tire Bank has been made aware of fraudulent activities where bad actors are posing as bank representatives and promoting fictitious Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) products. The fraudulent communications include inaccurate GIC rates and false information. These fraudsters are contacting individuals via phone, email, or SMS with the primary intent of stealing personal information and funds1.
The bank wants to remind the public that it does not employ representatives to promote or sell its GICs or other retail banking products in person, over the phone, or by email1. If you have been contacted by someone trying to sell you a Canadian Tire GIC, even if the communication seems professional or legitimate, do not communicate with them or share any personal information. Instead, you should reach out to Canadian Tire Bank directly:
- Retail Banking Customer Service: 1-866-681-2837
- Credit Card Customer Service: 1-800-459-64151
You should also report this to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre:

If you suspect you have become a victim of this fraud, please report the incident to Canadian Tire Bank or your financial institution and your local police1.
Always be wary of unsolicited communications that ask for personal information, such as your name, address, birth date, Social Insurance Number, or credit card or banking information1.
